Risk

August 27th, 2007 by jim1537

To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

New Author

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce my wife to all of you.  She is a great psychic and spiritual teacher and has taught psychic development, astrology and tarot. We met over thirty years ago at a local Spiritual Center where she was giving readings at the time.  One of her clients gave her the nickname “Meremystic” back then and it has stuck ever since.  She will be doing the website reviews for this blog, and will also be a featured writer.

Where Have I Gone Wrong?

August 26th, 2007 by jim1537

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and ask, ‘Where have I gone wrong?’ Then a voice says to me, ‘This is going to take more than one night.’

Charlie Brown

Charles M. Schulz

This is funny, but it also rings true.  The journey of growth and understanding is a life long quest. In trying to get it “right,” we often feel we have more failures than successes and tend to be really hard on ourselves.  A little humor helps a lot, especially when things seem overwhelming.

Psychological Self Help

August 25th, 2007 by jim1537

Website Review:  Psychological Self Help
http://www.psychologicalselfhelp.org/

Psychological Self Help is an intelligent site with the mission of giving psychology away in order to educate and help others heal themselves.  Written by a clinical psychologist, the site is really a massive book on how we can help ourselves.  The site covers everything from values and mores to depression and anxiety to love and relationships.  There is a whole chapter on how to use the material, including a problem checklist that is quite helpful

The writing is intelligent, clear and concise and, with the exception of a few overview chapters, not overly academic.  This is a meaty, substantial site, useful for long term study and is especially appealing to those who prefer an intellectual approach to changing behavior.  Because of its depth, it is not the place to go to get a five minute sound bite.  The site also links to a forum for support and sharing with others.

Happiness is….

August 25th, 2007 by jim1537

Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.

Anonymous

This is such a great quote.  For so many of us, we put off our happiness until things are perfect – the perfect lover, the perfect job, the perfect house, the perfect whatever….  To be happy in the now, imperfections and all, is to be truly living.
