Heroes

October 17th, 2007 by jim1537

Each man is a hero and an oracle to somebody.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

We tend to think of heroes as larger than life.  Yet in reality, there are heroes all around us:  The single mom struggling to make a living and raise children, a father working an unpleasant job to provide for a family, anyone who works to overcome a catastrophe in their own life or someone who strives to make a difference whther it is the major issues that face mankind or a small act of kindness to a stranger.  Each of us has the ability to use our special gifts to make a difference in somebody’s life.

Based on this I am a hero many times over!! :).
How come then, I don’t feel like a successful superwoman - & instead feel someone who life is beating up on ever so often…?!!

Christopher Reeve said that “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

I think it is the persevering and enduring that is important. “Success” is difficult to measure. Look at Al Gore. Everyone considered him to be a failure because he lost the presidential race. He just was awarded the Nobel Prize for his environmental work.

Maybe you need to re-think your definition of a “successful superwoman.” You are one - you just haven’t manifested it yet!

In thinking about it…”Rome wasn’t built in a day”….And I’m not building a small town here either :) - Bottomline message: Keep pluggin away no matter what!!!

    Thanks meremystic!!

An afterthought: Perhaps, real heroism is really about doing the “right” thing no matter what…
Ok “successful superwoman” does need to think out a few things… :)

Good thoughts! If you find a copy of the “successful superwoman manual” anywhere, let me know–I’ve been looking for it for years! :)

LOL - I would speculate that everyone needs their own personalised “success” manual…but think the general guidelines are beautifully laid out in Jim1537’s article at http://jim1537.com/blog/10-tips-for-living-your-dreams/

However, I wish I knew how to “feel” successful!!! Chances are that people who FEEL successful ARE successful (measures of success are unique & personal) in their own eyes - Thats what counts - No?!?!!

I haven’t read Al Gore’s autobiography if there is one - but what if, in his most private moments, he feels like a failure & thinks - “I wanted to be president of the United States, but they gave me the “No-Belle” prize instead..”

    Thanks
