If You Were Really Psychic
September 14th, 2009 by jim1537
For any reader, there comes a point, often many times throughout their career, where someone asks them a “test” question. “When will my girlfriend and I are get back together,” a man asks?” However, there has been no break up. He and his girlfriend are going along in their relationship just fine. So why was this “test” question asked, then? Simply stated, it is designed to trip a reader up. Some people think that if they throw a “test” question (the equivalent of a curve ball), and if the reader is “really psychic,” they should be able to immediately see this “curve ball” coming, and somehow look beyond that “test” question and tune in accurately.
For these types of people who are skeptical, cynical or downright disbelieving of the psychic process, they raise the bar so much higher than any reader could possibly reach. In their minds, if a psychic reading is to be believed at all, it must be absolutely 100% accurate. By holding a psychic to a standard that is humanly unable to be achieved, the value of what a reading can offer becomes discredited, and therefore, dismissed.
When it comes to a reading, for those who are closed minded, it’s as if there can be no margin of error if psychic ability is to be considered credible – but apparently, this only applies to psychics. Science, medicine, mathematics and physics, all things that are considered reliable standards of absolute fact and truth, ALL have a margin of error. Is every scientific conclusion always right, or every medical diagnosis correct? Of course not. What about mathematics and physics? They are not 100% accurate either. In the short of it, there is nothing that we do as human beings that is infallible, flawless and perfect. So why doesn’t that understanding apply to psychics?
Because these people are looking to discredit psychic readings, plan and simple — and that is easily achieved by raising the bar higher than any reader could reach. It becomes a way of validating the pre-conceived prejudice held by many against psychics in general. It reminds me of that old street phrase: “If you’re looking for it, you’ll find it.” Meaning, if you want to make a reader look foolish, inaccurate, non-credible and even ridiculous, it’s easy to do.
“If you were really psychic, you would know my name? If you were really psychic, you would know what I’m thinking right now. If you were not a fraud, you should know what I ate for breakfast,” someone out to disprove psychics may say. However, for anyone who understands the psychic process at all, these are not viable questions. A consultation can be many things: It can bring information through from spirit (which is designed to offer counsel, guidance, insights and predictions that assist in life’s journey). Some readers are only psychic, and not mediums. Other readings may offer only one of these things; others a combination.
Readings do not involve guessing, parlor tricks, slight of hand, or mind reading. (It would be like asking your doctor to guess at what a blood test is going to reveal.) In these instances, one’s mind is already made up. They just look to find ways to authenticate their pre existing judgment.
Often, test questions are used to throw a psychic off, which are simply designed to discredit the reader. I remember a woman asking me, “When will I get married?” As I started to tune into the energy, she interrupted and cheerfully proclaimed, “I’m already married. I can see that you are not really psychic at all, because if you were, you would have known I was married. Now I know that this is all fake.”
Another client once asked, “How many children do I have?” She then stated that she doesn’t believe in readings, but if I were really psychic, I should be able to answer this question right on the spot — and if I could, just maybe she would consider having a reading.
Keep in mind that a psychic can “miss” these questions and still be a good reader: For example, a psychic might feel a strong relationship as a marriage, even if it is not a legal one. There are times that a psychic can feel children connected to a person that are not theirs biologically. The child picked up through a reading may be someone who they are like a parent to, or perhaps, a stepchild.
With these types of questions, it is abundantly clear that it is only a test. In this instance, I advised this client that test questions will not give her the reading she should want (but didn’t want), – an accurate one. It only pollutes the spiritual aspect of the psychic process and ruins the possibility of helpful information to be channeled.
In any consultation, there should be the presumption by the reader that a client’s motives and intentions are sincere. A psychic cannot do their job correctly by wondering if what the client presents are legitimate or trick questions, which are designed to lay a trap. If a session becomes a game of hide and seek, the reading will not work.
You might ask, “If someone is really psychic, does it matter what the client’s attitude is? Isn’t information that comes through a reading just that – information?” Clearly — it’s not that simple. Think of a reading as a partnership between: The reader, the client, the spirit forces involved (guardian angels, master teachers, possibly loved ones from the other side), as well as information directly channeled from the Godhead. If the client is closed, cynical, disbelieving, or trying to trip the reader up, part of this partnership fails or is at least, seriously compromised. It is like having several links that make up a chain, with one of the links being broken, (which represents the client’s negative or closed attitude). The entire chain becomes weakened.
Remember, the nature of a reading is not designed to survive tests. The psychic process is quite delicate, and easily thrown out of balance. As a reading involves transcending time and space and connecting with the spirit world, it is like holding a vase in your hands. If you knock it against something, it gets chipped and damaged, and worse yet, if it is dropped, it becomes shattered. It is the same situation with a reading. Closing off, asking test questions and being cynical, all change the outcome of a reading. Why? Because a session is based on the flow of energy coming into and through the reading, and the client is definitely a large part of that energy. When this energy changes for the negative because of the client, the reading itself becomes inaccurate and non-productive.
Here is a question worth asking: “Since God doesn’t play games and perform the equivalent of card tricks in a reading, why would anyone think that they could reduce a session to such nonsense and that God’s infinite intelligence would comply? In short, we see that those who don’t want to approach a reading with an open mind will not benefit from all that could indeed come through to guide them. They will try to prevent anything helpful from spirit reach them. Yet there are those who do have readings on a regular basis and claim to believe in the psychic process, but they also don’t allow the psychic process to work either. They play the same “If you were really psychic” game, but in a slightly different way.
Some clients try to limit a reading to only “yes” or “no” answers, only seen in black and white terms. “When am I going to be rich? When am I getting married? What am I going to do this month? When am I meeting the one? Often, these as well as any other questions cannot be answered in didactic “yes” or “no” answers, without any grey tones discussed, which absolutely exist in life’s journey. If life were only thumbs up or thumbs down responses, it would be pretty simple and basic, wouldn’t it? Either you get what you want, or you don’t – period.
Of course, our experience is completely filled with grey tones, and if our lives are that way, why would anyone think that a reading could be any different? If all aspects of our journey have choices, forks in the road, possibilities, crossroads, lessons and complexities, how would a reading then trump the laws of the universe?
It’s as if these clients have incredibly unrealistic expectations of a reading that are not humanly possible. Here is an example: I recently had a client who wanted to know when his money situation was going to improve. As I was trying to explain to him that what I was picking up was that his negative self image and feeling unworthy of prosperity is what created (and was still perpetuating his poverty), he immediately interrupted with, “I just want to know when my money situation is going to get better. Can’t you answer that question? If you were really psychic, you should know that? Is it tomorrow, next month or when?”
Here, what he refused to realize, is that his “money” question couldn’t be answered by a time-based prediction at all. Meaning, it CANNOT be clarified by a date on the calendar. Why? Because it is lesson driven. This means that the client has a spiritual lesson to learn regarding money – one that he had agreed to before he incarnated into this physical lifetime. Now, the lesson has come to bear, and he needs to learn what he is supposed to, which in this instance, is to improve his self worth, self esteem and self image, which will allow him to manifest money. However, if he doesn’t learn these things, the money remains unavailable to him.
It’s like wanting a diploma without passing your classes. The diploma only comes after you complete your courses with passing grades. This analogy may sound silly, but it really is the same thing: The lesson needs to be learned for the desired outcome of the client to come into being.
Sometimes these clients argue, interrupt, and keep trying to act as if life is a “pre written” script, always using the statement, “If you were really psychic, you should know the answer.” If that were the case, all we would be in the physical world are actors saying our lines and acting out the scenes completely written for us by a higher power. If that was all we were here for, what purpose could a reading possibly serve? There would be no value in simply knowing everything that was going to happen to us, without any possibility of choice or changing our lives for the better.
At the root of the problem, is something much deeper, though. The reason that only “yes” or “no” answers are sought and accepted is that those responses require absolutely no growth on the client’s part. The real issue is not if someone is psychic enough – the fact is that these clients don’t want to look at themselves, and see how they have created or co created their reality and what they need to do to change it and move forward. It’s the same thing as someone who is overweight not wanting to diet – or someone who is out of shape not wanting to sweat at the gym. It’s as if someone was drowning, and they were being thrown a life raft to save their lives, but instead, they become defensive and find fault with the person trying to help them.
If a psychic can just say: “It’s a yes or it’s a no,” there is no work involved for the client. For the client to want, even insist on this type of reading, if indicates that the client is in denial, and is resisting taking responsibility for doing what they need to do to move their journey in the right direction. And often, it’s the psychic who gets blamed, as if they are not really being “psychic,” if they offer anything other than bottom line “fill in the calendar” predictions.
This also becomes a way for the client to control the reading and limit what it can offer, all because they don’t want to realistically look at their own situation. This way, a reading becomes something to play with and be amused by, as just another form of entertainment or a little “pick me up.” A session is reduced to something like a magic fantasy pill, or a quick fix, as opposed to a consultation that can offer several levels of insight, guidance and helpful information. If we look at the possibilities of what a reading can indeed offer, we see the limitless potential of what a consultation can provide. Here are some of the infinite possibilities that can be gained from a reading when a client has an open mind:
- Seeing the lessons that need to be learned to move forward in a positive way with their journey.
- All of the choices involved in any situation that indeed affect the outcome.
- What is best and not best to do.
- Seeing the repercussions for choices to redirect what is chosen for the better.
- Clarifying the spiritual lessons that are being learned, which helps to clear up confusion and offer direction.
- The potential of what can be manifested and how to achieve that.
- Time based predictions, when applicable.
- The past life lessons that were agreed to before incarnating that need to be learned.
- Understanding other people’s motives, who they are and how that relates to the client.
- The many possibilities that are in front of the client.
- How there is more that one road to travel down in any given situation.
- How the client has often created or co-created their reality.
- The power of thoughts, words, actions and choices.
- Redirecting thought processes for success.
- Spirit messages from our teachers, as well as loved ones from the other side.
- Any and all insights and messages that come through from spirit in a reading.
You might ask, “Is all of this really psychic? Some of it sounds like self help and maybe even counseling.” Yes, it is ALL psychic. Why? Because the way that this information is gained comes through the psychic process. So any level of insights, predictions, guidance, transcendent information, spirit messages, counsel, and awareness of any kind that that comes through in a consultation, all falls under the umbrella of a psychic reading. Here, we need to redirect our limited perception of a reading to being far beyond just the simple “yes” or “no,” “time and date” predictions that are far too limited to really help anyone on any real level. Think of it this way: Besides our ego, defense and denial mechanisms, what possible reason could a client have to not want to receive potentially helpful, even life-altering information?
Since a reading is offered to us to serve a higher purpose in our lives, it is not a game, but rather, a divine gift from the heavens. Even if we achieve the ability to listen to what comes through, we must also remember that what we may request to come through in a reading may or may not. God offers what God offers, and yes, God knows best.
Often, the question asked is not the question answered or in the way the client would like it to be answered. A client could ask, “If you were really psychic, why couldn’t you answer my question in the way I asked it? Instead, something completely different came through.” This is because spirit, our teachers, loved ones from the other said and God Almighty know what’s best – not necessarily what the client may want to hear, but what they NEED to hear.
Besides being flexible regarding the way a question may be answered, a large part of whether a reading is successful or not is the ability for the client to participate in the process. For a session to be successful, the client must be involved in a positive way. A reading is a partnership – it is teamwork. What does that mean? Actually, it varies from reading to reading. Sometimes, there is dialogue between the client and reader. Other times, a spirit message comes through that must NOT be interrupted by the client. Other times, a client needs to talk about what they’re going through to get it out (which opens up the energy as they release what’s going on inside), while other times, spirit takes the lead and offers guidance. If a reader needs clarification on something they’re feeling, the client needs to offer that in return.
In addition, the client must not go into a reading thinking they already know the answers. Often, what one believes to be true, frequently with all of their heart, is not accurate or correct. It may be just what is being emotionally experienced at the time. In that subjective mode, it’s easy for a client’s defenses and ego to become engaged and say, “If you were really psychic, what you are saying would make sense, but it doesn’t,” because the reading doesn’t match or parrot the client’s pre-existing viewpoint. If the reader is made to be wrong, the client can still feel justified in holding onto their current false view of the situation in question. This way, the reading will be greatly hampered, limited and probably unsuccessful. If we want a reading to be enlightening, we can never expect to get more out of a session than what we’re open to receive and what we’re willing to give.
There is that great phrase, “You get what you give.” This is so true for a reading. What a client gives to a session is most certainly what they will get back in return. A client must give an open heart, open mind, a willingness to participate, a positive attitude, all the while looking for the information that is for their greater and highest good, not just what they want to hear. It is with that spirit of giving, that the client will most certainly find themselves receiving!
Always remember, the universe wants to help us to heal and move our lives forward. It is us who close the door, by looking for ways to not be open to what comes through in a reading. One’s level of ego, denial, and emotional confusion can be like a brick wall. And what’s unfortunate about that brick wall, is that it only hurts the client – no one else. We must let go of the old patterns – the same patterns that would continually say, “If you were really psychic,” to a reader who doesn’t mimic the current emotional level of understanding possessed.
There is a classic story that says, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime. This concept also applies to readings. By just answering “yes” or “no,” it is like giving someone a fish, which will last a single day, but if the reading answers the much more profound questions of “why,” that person will be able to eat for a lifetime. These metaphors refer to the “yes” or “no” reading only being of assistance for the moment, while answering “why” will help to transform a client’s life for the better — forever.
It is with the knowledge of “why” that gives us the ability to greatly improve our lives. That success comes by us releasing the barriers within that block us from receiving all of the guidance, insight, wisdom and information that will help us to legitimately heal our lives. This endless plethora of divine information has been there — yes, it has always been there all along — like a treasure chest that was right in front of us that we just weren’t willing to pay attention to, notice or acknowledge. The right information has continually been there all the while for the taking and now, it can truly be utilized to manifest the blessings, dreams and highest good that we have always deserved.
